WebLink FAQ

Technical Questions

Back to main FAQ

What browser versions do you support?

WebLink officially supports Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows and above, Mozilla 1.7 and above, and Firefox 1.0 and above. We recommend you always keep up to date with the latest version of these browsers.

The website will work with many other browsers, but some pages will have problems in older browsers such as Netscape 4. The two most significant problems with Netscape 4 and below are:

  1. It is not W3C compliant. The W3C is the organisation that sets the standard for HTML (which means some of the features on the WebLink site won't work correctly).
  2. Netscape can be significantly slower in rendering complicated pages, such as those found in the Portfolio section.

Netscape 6 and above fix both the above problems, but since these versions of Netscape are just customised versions of Mozilla, and since Netscape is now a discontinued product, we recommend that Netscape users upgrade to the latest version of Mozilla instead.

WebLink also requires the following web technologies to be enabled:

  • JavaScript
  • Cookies
  • Java (for dynamic users)

What browser version do I have?

Every time you visit a web-page, your browser sends the site you visit a message that includes the name and version of your browser. Your browser identifies itself as:

Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; ClaudeBot/1.0; [email protected])

Some User-Agent examples

You can compare your browser's identification string above with these examples to help you decide which browser you are using

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Mozilla 1.5 for Windows 2000

How can I upgrade my browser?

The method you use to upgrade your browser depends on which browser you are using.

Internet Explorer for Windows
You can download the latest copy of Internet Explorer for Windows by going to the Internet Explorer home page and then clicking 'Download'. Note: After upgrading your browser, we strongly suggest that you visit Windows Update and apply all available critical updates. After rebooting, visit Windows Update again until there are no more critical updates left.
Mozilla
Visit the Mozilla Download Page and download the latest version of Mozilla for your operating system.
Firefox
Visit the Mozilla Firefox download page and download the latest version of Firefox for your operating system.
Other browsers
Read your browser's documentation for information about where to download new versions of your browser

What screen resolution should I use?

WebLink requires a minimum of 800x600 to render correctly on all pages. This has become the standard for web pages and the majority of web users now use this. If you are considering upgrading your PC soon, we would recommend that you use a 17" monitor running at least 1024x768. You will certainly appreciate the benefit.

If you are still using 640x480, or a text browser, we strongly recommend that you upgrade. Your overall Internet experience will be significantly improved.

Tip If you're using Internet Explorer, then pressing the F11 key will switch you in and out of full screen mode. Full screen mode gives you a bit more space to work with and will make larger pages, such as charts, more manageable.

Can I make bookmarks in this site?

Yes, you can make book marks to pages within the site as you would for any other website. When we make changes to the website we try to ensure that existing bookmarks will continue to work. However, if at any time your bookmark stops working, try logging in normally (through our homepage), go to the report you are trying to view, and recreate your bookmark.

If you are not already logged in, clicking on a bookmark will take you to the login page. Enter your UserID and password, and log in. You will then be sent to the page you bookmarked.
